Talk About It:
Lived experiences shape a stronger and healthier Alaska.
Silence protects abusers. Talking breaks it. Every time one of us speaks, we make what’s hidden visible, and when others join in, we begin to normalize the conversation. That’s how awareness grows, and how change takes hold across Alaska.
In Alaska, silence has had too much power. Issues like abuse, violence, and exploitation have lived in the shadows for generations. That silence protects abusers. What begins to change things is when we start talking.
We understand talking about it isn’t easy. For many of us, secrecy once felt like survival. But every time a survivor speaks, it chips away at the shame. Conversations, whether with a friend, a neighbor, or a community leader, make the hidden visible. They help others understand what’s really happening and why it can’t be ignored.
And when those conversations begin, they open doors. Doors to prevention. Doors to stronger policies. Doors to safer schools, safer neighborhoods, and safer futures, even in the farthest reaches of Alaska. But it can’t stop at just opening the door. We encourage others to step through it with us, to keep the conversation going. Because when more people are talking, these topics lose their taboo. What was once hidden becomes part of our shared language. And that’s when real awareness starts to take root, not as an abstract idea, but as a lived reality in every home and community.
Change begins in the talking. And the more voices that join in, the louder the call for safety, healing, and justice becomes.
